Question: the alarm system of my 1985 500 SEL will not disengage using

The MB Driver's Manual claims using the Master Key in the Main door lock (drivers side) should disarm the alarm system. This has not worked. I had to disconnect the alarm horn to travel in the car.

I had the same problem with my 420 SEL, here is what you are going to do. Look under the bonnet inside the fuse box, you will pull a white fuse that controls the alarm and a bit of other things. Then at the passengers feet in the foot well of the passenger seat you will find behind the carpet a plastic false wall (30cmx40cm) held by a single 10mm , remove this to reveal a computer module that is about 6 inches wide by 3 inches high that has 2 wiring harnesses going to it. The box may say "becker." Remove that computer module as it only controls the alarm. When you reinstall the fuse the alarm should be deactivated. I had to do it twice for some reason it worked the second time.
PS try putting contact cleaner in the lock tumblers. My 500 SEC sometimes won't start if I don't pull my key in and out of the ignition several times.
