Question: Do you have to remove the alternator to replace the thermostat in a 03 celica gt.

I am changeling the thermostat in my 03 celica gt and I can not get the second nut off due to not having the space to get in there with a wrench or a socket. And if I do need to remove the alternator how do you get to the tensioner to get the belt loose.
